64 is a book about chess openings and players, made to make the game less intimidating to study. The majority of the book’s design focuses on varying grid systems, given the importance of the grid in chess. Many spreads feature collaged typography to simulate the movements of pieces across the board. Spreads outside of the primary collages feature layouts of diagrams and type that still reflect these same movements. White space and spreads with rigid column systems provide a reprieve from the otherwise dynamic designs.
