In this poster, I wanted to capture both the piece’s unique dynamism and its interesting history. The former can be seen in the staggered nature of the title as well as the “shattered” pieces of letters strewn across the composition. In reference to the latter, both Bartók’s home and the folk music of Europe were important to him and his work. I represented the through color, referencing to both Hungarian folk art and the artwork of Bartók’s Hungarian contemporaries.
The version of the poster seen above is an updated version of the project I made to be a more legible and functional poster. However, the version that preceded it received an Honorable Mention for the Graphis 2023 New Talent Awards. That version can be seen below. The primary type was formed from a paper and graphite texture I produced during the sketching phase of this project. The colors have the same point of reference, but I focused on the reds and grays I saw within the art as opposed to the blues and browns I used above.
